You should\ncheck out the first, second, and third parts before this one.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a>Quick\ninfo:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Name: Cambrian<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Era: 541-485.4 m.y.a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Average Temperature: 21 Celsius<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atmospheric oxygen: 12.5%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"362\" height=\"189\" src=\"https:\/\/bvrtse.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Under-The-Sea.jpg\" alt=\"under the sea\" class=\"wp-image-77\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bvrtse.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Under-The-Sea.jpg 362w, https:\/\/bvrtse.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Under-The-Sea-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bvrtse.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Under-The-Sea-360x188.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 362px) 100vw, 362px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So, after the Proterozoic, when\nlife was at its early stages and was simple, the Cambrian introduced the first\ntrue ancestors of animals, animals which move, hunt, and seem like actual\nbeasts. Of course, all of it was aquatic. Why is that? Well, remember all those\nglaciers in the Proterozoic? Those melted and brought the sea level\nRIDICULOUSLY high. Everything was warm, and the conditions were ideal for\ndiversification of life into more complex structures. There was land, after the\nwhole tectonic plate formation WAY back in the Hadean, the land had been rising\nout of the mantle. This big piece of land was called Gondwana, and it basically\ncovered the South of the Earth. It was what would eventually become most of\nAsia, England, Antarctica, Australia, and, of \n \n \ncourse, Florida. (Maybe that is why\neveryone from Florida is so OUTLANDISH.) The rest of soon-to-be America was on\nan island called Laurentia, and some other islands were soon-to-be countries,\nlike Siberia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cambrian Explosion. A\nlife-changing event. Literally. No, LITERALLY. Like, it actually changed life.\nThis was life\u2019s experimentation phase, where it just played around to see what\nwould work, and what looked cool. Many strange animals appeared here. There\nwere also animals with skeletons, and animal which could burrow. Why did the\nhappen? Well, first off, there was more oxygen; the ozone formed, which\nprevented everything from getting RADIATION POISONING; the glaciers killed\nbasically everything else, which freed up niches for animals; the increased\ncalcium in the saltwater let them create bones; Hox genes, which basically\ndecide where each body part goes; and of course, the food chain, which started\nthe race between prey and predator to one-up each other, the prey becoming\nharder to kill, and the predator making it harder for the prey to not be dead\n(It\u2019s complicated).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the animals were\narthropods, which are basically the class which contains insects and arachnids\n(Class, phyla, genus, it was one of them, Okay, I don\u2019t remember!). Like the <em>Treptichnus\npedum, <\/em>a burrowing creature and an ancestor to marine worms. Similarly, the\n<em>Conodonta <\/em>was an eel-like creature whose fossils were used to separate\nthese very eons. One of the most classic Cambrian animals is the <em>Trilobita<\/em>,\na burrowing ancestor to the hermit crab. <em>Myollokunmingia<\/em> resembled a\nfish and was newest of the first creatures to have a (relatively) complete\nskeleton. The <em>Anomalocaris<\/em> was a close relative to insects. It was a\npredator which could grow up to a metre, its eyes were as powerful as the\ncompounded eyes of today\u2019s insects, and it had two stalks protruding from its\nmouth with sharp teeth on the end. <em>Pikaia<\/em> was a worm-like eel thing,\nwhich was one of the first creatures to have a spine, and so was very important.\nA strange one was <em>Opabinia,<\/em> who had five eyes, a mouth under the head,\nand a proboscis like tentacle. This diverse font of life is an important part\nof what was yet to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Shaurya Prasad &nbsp; ( Grade 7A ) <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the fourth part of The Ancients, a series of posts describing how life evolved and diversified; all with overreaction and satire from yours truly.
