Preschool years (ages 2-5)
Preschool years (ages 2-5) are the crucial years that lay a foundation to a life-long journey of learning, hence aptly called as the Early Years Foundation Stage. It is mandatory to understand the objectives while planning a curriculum for these critical years as they lend themselves as a stepping stone towards formal schooling. Hence it is all the more necessary not to look at the Early Years curriculum as a stand-alone programme but as a pathway that ensures a smooth transition for learners into the formal study years of school.
Our curriculum draws its inspiration from the Reggio Emilio Approach and the Montessori Approach in terms of the programme being learner-centric allowing hands-on discovery learning, but is not limited to either of the beliefs. The curriculum focuses on play-way method with the epicentre being the key areas of learning: physical, personal, social and emotional development; literacy skills; numeracy skills; understanding the world through enquiry; and expressions through art, music and dance. The curriculum provides a balance of daily teacher-directed activities and child-directed activities that make learning fun.
With a belief to empower learners with the 21st century skills, we also derive from the whole-child philosophy of providing high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum that prepares learners for a world beyond classrooms. With the broad range of experiences planned, the curriculum moves beyond the key areas of learning and promotes a positive image of self, community and the world around them.
The final objective of our preschool curriculum is to instill a love for learning as we prepare them for further education that moves hand in hand with the Cambridge philosophy of imbibing the learner attributes of being confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged right from the early years.
